Abstract

Clinical Nutrition is a comprehensive book discussing nutrition in all its aspects. I tis primarily intended for physicians with a certificate in the basic fields of medicine with an interest in clinical nutrition, but it can also serve as a teaching text of certificate in clinical nutrition and intensive metabolic care guaranteed by the Committee of the Society of Clinical Nutrition and Intensive Metabolic Care.

The team consists of a total of 74 authors, of which 58 physicians, 9 dietary nurses, 3 pharmacists, 1 nurse and 2 other university experts. The text is divided into general and special part.

The first part deals with the history of clinical nutrition, individual macro- and micronutrients and their metabolism, examination of nutritional status, including screening for malnutrition and subsequent steps of nutritional support, legislation, diet, enteral and parenteral nutrition, including methods introduction of inputs for their application, home nutritional support, ethical aspects of nutritional care and organization of nutritional support, including the powers of individual professions. The chapter Nutrition in different periods of life has a special place.

In the second part, Special Nutrition, aspects of clinical nutrition in diseases of the human body are discussed in detail. These include diseases of the oral cavity, dysphagic problems, lung and respiratory diseases, nutrition in gastroenterology, hepatology, in patients with renal failure, diabetes mellitus, disorders of fat metabolism, obese patients, patients with osteoporosis, neurological patients.

Chapters on hereditary metabolic diseases, food allergies, eating disorders and other psychiatric diagnoses have their place. The team of authors has prepared chapters on nutrition in cancer patients, nutrition in surgery, transplantology and in critically ill patients.

The monography concludes with chapters on the nutrition of patients in extreme conditions and patients with COVID-19.
