Reporting verbs in L1 and L2 English novice academic writing

Abstract

The study investigates the use of reporting verbs, comparing two corpora of undergraduate theses from Czech and American universities written in English. It has revealed that L2 writers differ from L1 writers not only in the range of verbs used but also in their frequency and preferred verb patterns.
