The article analyzes the most successful methods aimed at developing functional reading skills among schoolchildren of grades 5 at the lessons of the Russian language. These methods were included in the textbooks "Russian language: a textbook for secondary schools" (authors Z.
K. Sabitova, K.
S. Sklyarenko), which are now successfully used in schools in Kazakhstan.
The catalog of methodological techniques that formed their basis can be successfully used in teaching different languages, since it contains the most successful techniques from world experience, as well as authors' developments focused on the characteristics of the psychological and emotional development of schoolchildren.
