Abstract

Green bonds are a means of financing projects related to sustainable development. As the combination of sustainability and finance is gradually transforming from voluntary political declarations and commitments into European law, it is necessary to establish clear standards for green bonds.

This article discusses the current regulation of sustainable finance and its connection with green bonds. It also examines the development of the regulation of green bonds and the trend in the growing volume of their issuance, both at the European and global level.

The general characteristics of green bonds and their preferential treatment compared to conventional bonds is also analysed. Finally, possible perspectives of future development in this area are mentioned.
