The poster stems from the PhD project dealing with the category of space in Jewish history ilustrated by building of synagogues in the Czech lands in the second half of 19th century in three cities: Pilsen, Teplice and Moravská Ostrava. The aim of the poster is to show, what kind of research questions arise in case of using methods inspired of spatial turn and how the reaserch can be orientated.
The poster presents the role of space as a key factor for understanding of modern Jewish history. It shows methodological inspirations for the research of the category of space in Jewish history, pariculary Henri Lefebvre's concept of the production of space and Michel Foucault's concept of heterotopia connected with the newest works from Jewish studies based on these concepts.
The poster also introduces the topic of the Jewish emancipation in the Czech lands in the European context. It shows the advantages of the using of the category of space in the research of Jewish identity and Czech-german-jewish relationships in the Czech lands.
