Abstract

The study deals with the issue of school quality, respectively, Quality Management Systems (hereinafter referred to as "QMS"), which are used by secondary vocational schools in the Czech Republic. An study was carried out to evaluate and compare the impact of the most commonly used quality management systems on student satisfaction and attitudes towards school.

A standardized questionnaire developed by the Leibniz Universität Institute for Pedagogy and Adult Education Hannover was used for the study. The survey was conducted at 21 secondary vocational schools of various school authorities and sizes in seven regions of the Czech Republic.

The survey comprised of questionnaires given to 6 454 students and 21 principals. The main research group consisted of five schools; sixteen schools formed a control group.

Two main and three partial hypotheses were tested, aiming to measure the overall impact of QMS on students' satisfaction with their school, with the quality of teaching, their teachers and technical equipment. Students of schools using QMS evaluate their school slightly better than students from schools that have not implemented the QMS.
