Video-gamers as recipients and creators of public history: Let's play videos as public history

Publication at Faculty of Social Sciences |
2022

Abstract

Because of the interactivity of video games, it is quite difficult to ascertain how the history proposed for the public is being received. Looking at a specific type of paratext-Let's Play videos-the chapter focuses on specific player interactions with the game Valiant Hearts in different language contexts.

It also explores how video-gamers involved in Let's Play videos become creators in their own right, demonstrating an example of doing history with and by the public.
