Abstract

In January 2020, an epidemic of a disease caused by a new type of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 broke out. This disease, later named COVID-19, spread to the rest of the world from Wuhan, China.

In March, the World Health Organization declared the spread of the disease a global pandemic. At that time, Europe was already the main epicentre of COVID-19.

In addition to the global epicentre of COVID-19 (Wuhan) and the main European outbreak (northern Italy), the article also presents the case of outbreak at a local level on the example of the Belgian town of Alken.
