In connection with the covid-19 pandemic, the general public also began to address issues related to testing samples. One of the issues that was discussed in connection with testing was the issue of so-called pooling.
The aim of this article is to present one of the mathematical tools - separation systems, which can be used effectively in the joining of samples and their subsequent testing. All derivations are realized only with the use of elementary mathematics so that it is possible to use the achieved results not only in self-testing, but also as an example of practical application in teaching mathematics or computer science.
