Marine Plankton in the Global Cycle of Elements

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2021

Abstract

Marine plankton is essential for life on Earth. It drives the oceanic cycles of elements and significantly affects the global climate, either by greenhouse gas sequestration or by production of volatile substances acting as condensation nuclei of clouds in the water cycle and in cooling down the Earth’s surface.

The new popularization-educational project Planktomania with virtual reality is presented in a follow-up article in the same issue.
