World conflict regions - Europe

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2021

Abstract

The book deals with selected conflicts and other political problems in contemporary Europe, explains their general trajectories of development, outlines the historical and geographical context and presents their current state and possible development. It focuses in more detail on three regions with specific political problems, which, however, combine expressions of nationalism and geopolitics.

The first chapters summarize the historical development of the entire continent and then introduce theoretical concepts and terminology illuminating political processes. Subsequent chapters deal with conflicts or cases of potential changes in the political map of the continent in Northern Ireland, Scotland, Catalonia, the Basque Country, the former Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union.
