Hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) is one of the most serious complications while taking a care for patients with advanced liver cirrhosis. Over the last decade, significant progress has been made in the diagnosis of various forms of acute kidney injury (AKI) in liver cirrhosis, which subsequently led to a reassessment of the original HRS diagnostic criteria.
