This presentation was concerned with how writing systems are graphophonemically interpreted by competent readers. In focus are the functional correspondences between graphemes and phonemes as well as the contextual factors that influence them.
Drawing on my Master's thesis from 2017, I presented a descriptive graphical modelling system that can map these correspondences and elucidate the contextual rules affecting their ultimate sound-based interpretation. The linguistic examples presented span the Eurasian continent.
