What is the relationship between impairment and determinants for key performance in Paralympic sports containing a Paralympic classification based on scientific evidence? - systematic review

Abstract

Key words: sports-specific classification, classification classes, isometric strength, sports for the physically, mentally and visually impaired Theoretical background The origin of the Paralympic classification dates back to 1948 - the origin of the Paralympic movement, when the classification was based only on medical basis (diagnosis). Between 1992 and 2015, Paralympic sport shifted to a sports-specific classification.

In the context of further development and research of the Paralympic classification, the International Paralympic Committee (2015), in one part of the classification code, points to the need for research into sports-specific classification in relation to disadvantage and determinants determining key performance in Paralympic sports. Aims: The aim of this study is to systematically examine, describe and analyze / synthesize the literature and to determine the relationship between disadvantage and determinants determining key performance in Paralympic sports containing a Paralympic classification based on scientific evidence.

Methods: For the study search strategy, we chose two keywords "paralympic classification" and "evidence-based paralympic". We entered these keywords into the databases: EBSO (SPORTDiscus and ERIC) (1992-March 2021), Scopus (1994-March 2021) , PubMed (1998-March 2021) and Web of Science (1999-March 2021).

Results: 2,434 search results were found in all of the above databases. According to the refining criteria, we selected 97 potentially suitable studies.

Following the application of STROBE (Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology), 65 studies were included in this systematic search.
