Abstract

In the past 30 years, the Czech Republic has seen democratization, economic transformation and the redefinition of the nation-state. Today it has consolidated democratic and market-based institutions, which are, however, challenged by the concentration of economic, political and media power with the incumbent Prime Minister.

The technocratic populism he represents stands in opposition to the liberal idea of democratic control of violence and has contributed to political polarization.
