The paper aims to grasp selected topics connected with contemporary social dynamics in the context of Civics. The first part of the paper will analyze today's world's main problems and challenges in the political, economic, and social spheres.
Special attention will be paid to the dynamics in the political sphere: technocracy, plebiscite, and mainly populism. However, it also deals with the changes in society (increasing inequalities, poverty, and the role of elites) and especially the social consequences of climate change.
The second part of the paper will be focused on a more detailed analysis of social cohesion and populism in Czech society. Finally, the main goal will be to present these uneasy topics for Civics as a school subject.
The third part of the paper indicates how to teach these topics in contemporary schools.
