RESEARCH OF CHILDREN'S ABILITIES TO IDENTIFY RISK SITUATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH EVERYDAY LIFE SITUATIONS

Abstract

The paper focuses on the issues of safety, health protection and prevention of injuries in children, which is the subject of the currently solved research project LAGRIS. The article presents the results of a pilot survey among children aged 4-11 years, which was carried out using newly created evaluation worksheets.

The research focused on the analysis of children's ability to identify various risk situations that they may encounter in everyday life and in completely routine activities. 136 children from four cooperating faculty schools took part in the research. The survey itself was carried out in three classes of kindergartens and in four classes of the first stage of primary schools, which covered the age structure of children in preschool and early school age.

The results showed that children are able to recognize dangerous situations in more than half of the cases. However, the age of the child plays a significant role in the perception of some risks, which has been shown by the success of the set tasks.

Overall, older children scored slightly better than younger children. On the other hand, younger children were significantly more sensitive to certain risks, such as cyber risks.

The survey showed that the proposed methodology provides sufficiently valid results and can be used for the main survey carried out within the LAGRIS project.
