Mathematical education in the context of educational inequalities in Czech primary schools

Publication at Faculty of Education |
2021

Abstract

The paper focuses on the differences between primary schools and primary school classes in the Czech Republic and their development over time. It uses Czech statistical data and data from the TIMSS and PIRLS international large-scale assessments.

The comparison with other European countries shows that the Czech Republic does not exhibit extreme inequalities. However, the proportion of students in private schools and in homeschooling has been increasing.

At the same time, primary schools open specialized classes with services of superior quality.
