Abstract
The fourth part of the critical edition of the complete correspondence of Karel Havlíček contains all known letters both from and to Havlíček originating in 1848, most of which are published here for the first time. The year is framed by Havlíček's wedding and the birth of his daughter Zdeňka.
The core of the volume is, however, made up by letters to the editor addressed at Havlíček by the readers of Národní noviny; his journalism during the revolutionary period is explored in the the opening study. The letters are equipped with thorough comments, with detailed editors' notes characterising the individual writers' spelling, with a calendar of Havlíček's life and work, and relevant photographs.
