Abstract

Maps of the celestial sphere are among the less traditional cartographic works. The typical appearance of these maps, showing the northern and southern hemispheres in azimuthal projection, was used by Albrecht Dürer in his work Imagines Coeli Meridionalis, published in 1515.

Maps of the celestial sphere gained great popularity especially in the 17th and 18th centuries, when systematization and cataloging took place stars A new method of marking the letters of the Greek alphabet according to their brightness began to be used, mapping of other celestial bodies, especially the Moon, was underway, and maps of astronomical phenomena were created. Old maps of the celestial sphere are an important historical document illustrating the development of gradual knowledge of the universe, thus naturally becoming the subject of a wide range of analyses.

The aim of this poster is to introduce new methods and procedures for their automated cartometric analyses, to enable the identification of individual stars, to visualize and evaluate the accuracy of the drawing of stars and constellations.
