Abstract

A frequent place for an accident is school. This led the author of the study to conduct a long-term research survey, in which she mapped the level of selected competencies of pedagogical staff to provide pre-medical first aid.

The interim results show that respondents erred on questions related to cardiopulmonary resuscitation, cardiac hemorrhage arrest, and first aid procedures for epileptic seizures. Of course, the presented research survey cannot be generalized due to the size of the sample.

However, the author believes that it is necessary to take very seriously all indications of incompetence, which in a real school situation could lead to a threat to the health or life of the child. Providing proper pre-medical first aid is one of the skills to which educators attach considerable importance, they do not question the importance of these skills.

They themselves feel a considerable uncertainty in the knowledge and skills of providing lay first aid, which, however, is not removable by ordinary instruction. The way out of the current situation can only be the systematic education of pedagogical staff, which will be based not only on the acquisition of knowledge, but above all on practical training.

Annual occupational health and safety training, as can be seen, is inadequate.
