Pediatric neurology was established as a separate field more than sixty years ago, yet quality original textbooks in the Czech language are relatively rare. The publication Pediatric Neurology is intended for pediatric neurologists as well as pediatricians and adult neurologists who are interested in the topic, and can also be used for attestation training of physicians specializing in pediatric neurology in the Czech and Slovak Republics.
The monograph is divided into 21 chapters, which include the basic principles of examination, diagnosis and treatment of pediatric neurological disorders and specialized examinations (neurophysiology, imaging methods and the basics of genetics). The special part is focused on congenital developmental malformations, hereditary metabolic diseases, storage disorders and leukodystrophies, degenerative diseases of the basal ganglia, cerebellum, spine and peripheral nerves.
Neuromuscular diseases, inflammatory and neuroimmune disorders as well as paroxysmal diseases - epilepsy, sleep disorders and headaches - are discussed in detail. Attention is also paid to the issue of injuries, current advances in the diagnosis and treatment of tumors of the central nervous system and toxic damage to the nervous system.
The last chapter focuses on states of unconsciousness and other acute diseases, including cerebrovascular disease. The monograph provides a comprehensive clinical view of the entire spectrum of pediatric neurological disorders and serves as a practical manual for the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases
