Systematic review of pharmacokinetics and potential pharmacokinetic interactions of flavonolignans from silymarin

Abstrakt

Silymarin is frequently used as an over-the-counter preparation due to its claimed hepatoprotective effects. Interestingly, the bioavailability of flavonolignans, major compounds in silymarin, is poor.

Hence this paper aimed at the systematic review of all available data on pharmacokinetics of them (absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and pharmacokinetic interactions).
