Abstract
The publication offers a clear explanation of the topic of immunity of Members of Parliament. In addition to defining the term "immunity" itself, the publication presents its theoretical background, assesses its purpose and traces the principles on which it is based.
It summarises the historical development of immunity from its origins in England and France and comprehensively examines the development of this institution in our country from its beginnings to the present day. It covers the period of the Habsburg monarchy, Czechoslovakia and the present day, with the interpretation illustrated by specific cases, many of which will be entirely new to the reader.
The focus of attention is on the anchoring of immunity in the Constitution of the Czech Republic, related legislation and the case law of the courts. The publication also opens up completely new questions, which have not yet been addressed by our theory or practice.
Immunity as an exception for a narrowly defined circle of people often arouses general interest and emotions. This is a very topical issue and the publication will certainly find its readers among the professional and lay public.
