Abstract

In 1646, Balbín published his first work, Legatio Apollinis coelestis ad sapientiae laureatos amatores, which used to be characterized as a "poetic work with humanism elements". This work represents a collection of poems imitating ancient authors.

According to the Bibliography of Foreign Language work from Bohemian province, many authors mention this work under the title Legatio Apollinis coelestis ad Universitatem Pragensem, which, however, has not been proved by any surviving copy. It is traditionally stated that the work was published on the occasion of the coronation of Ferdinand IV. to the Czech king, but the basis for this statement cannot be found either in the preface to the work or in contemporary sources.

The paper analyses whether the writings was actually written by Balbín, on what occasion, and finally put the text in the context of contemporary events.
