Literary and Mythical Neighbourhood of Košíře

Publication |
2022

Abstract

The neighbourhood Košíře seems to be just another part of Prague periphery. However, this book explores manifold literary and cultural traditions, present or hidden in here: 1/ The traces of pre-modern culture of vineyards and manors, particularly the local myth of a "good bishop Thun-Hohenstein"; 2/ the stereotype of "proletarian Košíře" in texts of Karel Čapek and other authors; 3/ the archipelago of "creative islands" (Jaroslav Hašek, Jiří Trnka, Jáchym Topol a.o.); 4/ the neglected material for modern myths of anti-Nazi and anti-communist resistance (Jiří Weil, Jiří Hejda and others); 5/ the literary reflexion of the gentrification of Košíře.
