In this paper, the author draws attention to the importance of the systematic education of students of sinology in the grammar of Classical Chinese, and emphasises the role of systematic treatment of function words in this language. This domain tradtionally belongs to the more problematic ones both in research and teaching of Classical Chinese.
A new perspective, enabled by advanced reconstructions of Old Chinese morphology, could be an incentive for its re-evaluation and further development, and this is demonstrated in the article.
