Abstrakt
This chapter deals with a topic of stability and retention after orthodontic treatment with special focus on retention after aligner therapy. Although, the basic principles of retention and stability of orthodontic treatment are valid, irrespective of the type of appliance used, aligner treatment has some specifics compared to the conventional appliances.
Factors influencing stability, retention protocols, types of retention appliances, their typical combinations and schedule of retention recall visits are described in the chapter. Authors also describe complications associated with retention appliances, especially fixed retainers, which are often used for long-term or even life-long retention.
