Pain as the first symptom of cancer in children

Publication |
2006

Abstract

Every year, around 250 solid cancers are diagnosed at specialized pediatric oncology centers, which present with various clinical symptoms. The most important of these are pain, an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with acute or potential tissue damage, which as a warning sign may be the first and for some time the only symptom of cancer.

Pediatric patients are then often treated for a long time for another, misdiagnosed diagnosis.
