Algorithm for relatedness prediction on the basis of structural variants

Abstract

The algorithm describes the procedure how to predict degree of relatedness between two probands on the basis of structural variants markers detected from whole genome sequencing data (WGS). The algorithm is implemented in R programming language.

Identified structural variants are represented as binary markers for the purposes of relatedness prediction. The algorithms from the R package Demerelate are then used for relatedness coefficient prediction.

As a final step, the most probable relatedness category is assigned to the investigated pair of probands on the basis of empirically determined distribution of relatedness coefficient within different relatedness categories.
