The objective of the study is to present the essential principals and progress of the fundamental reform, which has been realized in the field of Slavic Studies at Faculty of Arts of Charles University since 2006, concerning in particular the philological branch of East European Studies with specialization. The reform included two basic stages.
The first one implied the creation of a new branch of territorial studies - East European Studies. The second one marked the accreditation of Russian Language and Literature as a separate branch of study focusing on national philology.
The paper gives a brief summary of some necessary changes to syllabuses and provides general information on professional activities of the executive office, which is the Department of East European Studies of the Institute of Slavonic and East European Studies FA CU, established in March, 2006, and then, the Department of East European Studies FA CU (from February 1, 2011). Besides, the paper focuses on a broader social context of the above-mentioned reform.
The author has also attempted to evaluate all changes and transformations in the field of East European Studies at FA CU in the last twelve years.
