Abstract

The World Heart Federation (WHF) together with the World Health Organisation (WHO) organise World Heart Day every year. For the first time, World Heart Day was declared in 2000, so last year it entered its third decenium.

People will learn about preventive measures that reduce the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease through events held on this day. In May 2012, government leaders pledged to reduce the global death rate from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by 25% by 2025.

World Heart Day provides a platform to unite efforts against circulatory diseases and to reduce the global burden of such diseases. The mortality rate from preventable diseases in the Czech Republic is significantly higher than the EU average, and this is reflected in the lower life expectancy and the stagnation of its growth in recent years.

This year, World Heart Day takes place on 29 September. The slogan of the first World Heart Day was "Physical activity." This year's slogan warns not to let your heart get too lazy: "Use heart... today, tomorrow and every day".
