Abstract

Railways are a phenomenon that is significantly affecting the Czech landscape for almost 200 years. The railway network in Czechia has developed from the construction of the first horse-drawn railway on the European continent from České Budějovice to Linz, through the construction of main lines in the mid-19th century, and the completion of an extensive network of local railways 50 years later, to the modernization of corridors and the decline of regional traffic at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries.

However, there was not only the construction of new tracks, bridges, tunnels, notches, or railway buildings, but also a significant change in the lives of people and society.
