Abstract

Many generations of Russians regard Alexander Nevsky as an outstanding figure in Russian history, but figuring out who the beloved prince really was is a difficult task for the historian and whose views may vary widely. Therefore, it is necessary to assess his ruler actions in a broader historical perspective.

By this way we get the image of a capable ruler who lived in difficult political conditions, which were the result not only of Mongolian expansion and enslavement, but also of the great disunity of the Rurikov princes. These created a situation when Alexandr had to solve difficult problems and make difficult decisions.

At the same time, we must keep in mind that due to the specific nature of the preserved sources, we will never get a complete answer to the question of who Alexander Nevsky actually was.
