Abstract

In 2021, we commemorated the 100th anniversary of the birth of František Listopad, a Czech writer, poet, literary and film critic, director and pedagogue. Jiří Synek has been in hiding since 1941, as he was a participant in the domestic resistance in the "For Freedom" group.

After the war, he managed the cultural section of the Mladá fronta newspaper, which he co-founded. In 1947 he was sent as editor of Parallèle 50 to Paris and remained there for several years.

In the 1960s, he moved to Portugal, where he lived and worked under the name Jorge Listopad for the rest of his life. After 1989, he regularly returned to the Czech Republic.

However, he wrote his poems only in Czech and did not care about translations. Karolina Válová and Petra Šantorová from the Institute of Romance Studies of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, lectured and excerpts from the Rosa definitiva collection (2007), accompanied by music, read about Listopad's poetic work.
