Abstract
Actinomycosis is a rare infection caused by Actinomyces, gram-positive pleomorphic bacteria. This microaerophilic or anaerobic pathogen creates druses composed of actinomycete fibres.
They locally form abscesses (actinomycoma) and purulent dissolution of tissue. The diagnosis is based on clinical findings, imaging methods, culture and biopsy examinations.
Inflammatory infiltrates and abscess deposits spread through the tissues. The response to the treatment, surgical and antibiotic, is difficult.
The case report describes a 69-year-old man with a rare acute cervical form of actinomycosis with manifestations of septic shock and the development of multiorgan dysfunction.
