The Bohemians, as the Utraquists were called at the time of the early Reformation, established contacts with Martin Luther soon after the Leipzig Debate. Consequently several translations of Luther's writings into Czech were produced between 1520 and 1523.
Authors from the German-speaking areas of north and north-west Bohemia were comparatively active at this time. They either wrote pamphlets modelled on Luther's writings or even produced them in cooperation with Wittenberg.
The article not only explains the contexts of the creation of these works and their models, but also in particular demonstrates the simultaneity and reciprocity of the two vernacular encounters with Luther.
