Ten commandments for motivational foraign language teaching

Abstract

This article presents pedagogical implications relating to the findings of empirical research carried out in Czech as a second language courses for international students coming to the Charles University for their study abroad semester. The study examined the students' motivational profiles in qualitative design and revealed the main factors which the students considered key in their learning process.

The analysis of these factors resulted in ten commandments for motivating learners, which may be applied in a variety of language classrooms.
