Abstract
A review of John Milton's Manuscript Writings, edited by William Poole. The publication mostly comprises an edition of Milton's commonplace book, providing it with textual annotations, commentaries and translations.
The second part of the edition contains Milton's outlines for tragedies from the Trinity College Manuscript with a palaeographical analysis of the manuscript and an exposition on the literary sources that inspired Milton, the ambivalence of the language in which he intended to write, and the performability of his proposed plays.
