Abstract

Antidotes are agents that are used for the therapy of poisoning. In 1962, Toxicological Information Centre (TIC) was founded at the Department of Occupational Medicine, General University Hospital in Prague.

TIC oversees the emergency stock of antidotes, anti-infective agents, and snake antivenins, with the primary objective to provide their availability 24 hours a day. In this article, crucial attention is paid to types of antidotes, their compositions, indications, and mechanisms of action.

This information is complemented by clinical features of poisoning, management, and special warnings.
