The paper focuses on mapping the situation of using computer models to support the teaching of redox processes. In the first step, an extensive search was carried out, the aim of which was to find as many computer models presenting the topics of electrolysis and galvanic cell as are freely available on the Internet.
In the second step, a didactic analysis of the found computer models (N = 18) was performed. The monitored criteria of the didactic analysis were displayed phenomenon and visualization of a macroscopic and microscopic view of the displayed phenomenon with and the symbolic notation.
The results of the analysis show that the combination of the current macroscopic view with the microscopic view was used in 13 analyzed models, in 4 of them a symbolic record of ongoing chemical processes was also available. In conclusion, based on didactic analysis, we can state that high-quality computer models of electrolysis and galvanic cell for use to support the teaching of these topics in terms of chemistry among the freely available models on the Internet are essentially missing or meet needs only partially.
