The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) was issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2001 and its Czech translation was published in 2008. Since then, the WHO has updated this classification by issuing annual lists of changes.
The update of the Czech version of the ICF classification was completed in 2020 as part of the activities of the National Centre for Medical Nomenclatures and Classifications project. The work consisted in the incorporation of the WHO official updates for the years 2011-2018 as well as in the overall revision of the original Czech translation of the classification and textual part of the ICF.
The revised version of the Czech translation of ICF is available in electronic form as an e-book and as electronic classification. The works on the Czech translation of ICF will continue, mainly by translating latest WHO official updates, by incorporating new features extending the use of the classification for further digitisation in health and social services and also by improving the existing translations.
These activities are closely linked to other activities of the Centre, which include the translation, maintenance and development of mainly electronic tools and educational materials. The aim is to improve practical applicability of the ICF in the Czech Republic and support its use in clinical practice and other areas.
