Abstract

The chapter traces the reception of Oráč z Čech from the middle of the 19th century in German ("imperial") and Czech-German literary criticism and literature (G. G.

Gervinus) to the first third of the 20th century (Karl Franz Leppa). The focus is thus on the period when the Ackermann substance crystallized into one of the "myths" of German national literary history.

In particular, she focuses on the work with this substance in the novel Phönix by the Czech German writer Hans Watzlik. On pp. 180-189 in the mirrored Czech-German edition, the text is thus 5 pages long.
