In the 1st to 4th centuries, the territory of south-western Slovakia was situated next to the Roman province of Pannonia, thus coming under the direct influence of the Roman Empire. The area was settled by bearers of a culture which written sources associate with the Germanic Quadi.
Their elites are described in various ways by sources. In the case of archaeological evidence, the so-called "princely graves" are the clearest, with their rich contents or stone buildings imitating the standard of living of Antiquity.
In this paper, we provide an overview of the kings (reges), mentioned by name as recorded by Roman authors in their works.
