Abstract

The authors focused in detail on the history of endometriosis, its etiology and pathological mechanisms in the Introduction section of Endometriosis. Subsequently the authors also analyzed individual theories that deal with the origin of this important, especially gynecological disease.

The individual parts of the publication describe in detail the theory of stem cells, progenitor cells in the process of regeneration, the pathomorphology of endometriosis, but also other mechanisms, such as processes related to immunological and hormonal aspects. Attention is also focused on the classification of endometriosis.

The treatment of this important disease is presented in several chapters, whether it is conservative, surgical or combination therapy. A separate chapter focuses on deep infiltrating endometriosis, which is the most serious form of the disease.

The last part of the publication deals with the relationships between endometriosis and sexual dysfunctions including pain, but also focuses on anxiety disorders, depression and dissociative disorders, and a diagnostic and therapeutic approach to these patients. Attention is also focused on sexual relationships in patients with endometriosis.
