Land consolidation as a tool for environmental protection

Abstract

The paper deals with the current view of the position of the State Land Office, as the successor of the Land fund of the Czech Republic and the system of land offices. The first part of the text is devoted to a main problems of land as a part of environment and also to a brief look at the basic concept of the State Land Office (CZ), as an administrative office with nationwide competence.

The following part is focused on the role of the State Land Office in environmental protection and its tools used in this regard. A closer examination is devoted to land consolidation in terms of their actual contribution to the protection of nature, landscape and especially agricultural land, but also in terms of their legal regulation.

A special area is dedicated to specific measures in the form of multifunctional common facilities, which are used primarily as a protection against water and wind erosion, drought, or torrential rain- fall, or contribute as a promotion of biodiversity. Conclusion brings a reflection on the contribution of the State Land Office and its activities for sustainable development.
