The United States of America became an important centre of Czechoslovak exile during the Cold War, providing the exiles with support for its political activities towards their homeland. As the Cold War intensified in the late 1940s, US government began to use Czechoslovak and other Eastern European exiles in its propaganda struggle with the Soviet Union.
Exiles from east-central Europe have become an integral part of the US information programme and the psychological warfare against communist states. The Czechoslovak exile not only participated in the realization of the US containment strategy, but also assisted the United States to create its positive image on the international stage and promote its modernization visions in the world.
