Heart tumors in children Heart tumors in children are a rare disease. Benign tumors predominate.
The most common cardiac tumor is rhabdomyoma, which, with fibroma and pericardial teratoma, forms the majority of tumors in the pediatric population. Malignant and metastatic forms are rare.
Tumors may be asymptomatic, present with non-specific symptoms or have symptoms of heart failure, arrhythmias, embolism. Surgical treatment is indicated for asymptomatic larger tumors, where safe removal is possible and symptomatic tumors.
In malignant tumors, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are added.
