"I am as German as Kafka" (Terézia Mora). Questioning the Concept of Migrant Literature

Abstrakt

The essay, which appeared in a collective monograph on German-language literature from Eastern Europe, first criticizes the presupposed understanding of Eastern Europe as including Central European regions on the one hand and Asian regions on the other. It then discusses the concept of migrant literature and asks whether texts in this category contain different representations of time and space than "normal" contemporary German literature.
