Abstract

The absolute majority of Prague inhabitants were non-Catholics prior to the Bohemian Revolt. During the first years after its defeat, non-Catholics faced restrictions, though they were initially primarily political.

It was not until 1624 that the sys-tematic Counter-Reformation started, which was carried out by the state in collaboration with the Catholic Church. During the 1630s and 1640s, the Counter-Reforma-tion was disrupted by wars.

The Counter-Reformation could be completed only after the signature of the Peace of Westphalia.
